Platforms

Once you have an idea for a solutions story and have decided to use social media to tell it, it's important to understand that each platform has its strengths and constraints. Depending on your objective and the audience you want to reach, it may be wiser to use one platform over another or even to combine two or more platforms.

Twitter is ideal for telling stories in bite-sized chunks, while Instagram and TikTok are perfect for visually-driven stories. Facebook is great for longer stories and building communities around specific topics. But that's not all. Emerging platforms like Discord and Reddit are gaining traction in the journalism world, offering opportunities for more niche and specialized content.

By assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the most popular social media platforms and understanding how to adapt the four qualities of solutions journalism into them, you can determine which platforms are best for your story and audience.
